What some would call a perpetual student, Robin has M.A. degrees in Inter-cultural Studies (2001) and Ethnomusicology (2007). She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music (Ethnomusicology) at the University of Georgia Athens, where she is a recipient of the Jo Ann Terry Walker Scholarship and the 2010 Graduate School Dean’s Award. After growing up in Alaska and attending university in the Los Angeles area, Robin lived with her husband Bill and two children in Alaska, Canada, and Oregon until they moved to Russia, where they lived from 1994 to 2004, primarily in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). She is currently doing dissertation research on the music of that area. Robin’s life work has always been connected to teaching. Prior to moving to Russia and beginning her study of ethnomusicology, Robin earned a B.Mus. in piano and taught piano and music theory. In addition, she taught music appreciation as well as intermediate and advanced Russian language classes at the St. Petersburg International Academy. She currently coordinates a yearly ethnomusicology-related course that is team-taught by herself and a group of colleagues in ICE at various seminaries and colleges around the country. Her service with non-profits currently includes work as an ethnomusicology consultant with Heart Sounds International and as Executive Director of the International Council of Ethnodoxologists (ICE). |
